PLAYGROUND DREAMSCAPES

At Mansouri Living, we have big dreams for even our littlest residents. We are determined to ignite the spirit of imagination by creating a true playground dreamscape in our newest multi-generational, mixed-use community North on Bayview in Richmond Hill. To achieve this, we have partnered with Earthscape to design a central play structure as an integrated public amenity space for people of all ages. This magnificent structure will sit on an area of 7,000 square feet, activated by happy children, at the centre of our development.  When we began our partnership with Earthscape, we assembled a collection of some of the wonderful global playgrounds that are inspiring our planning.

WOODS OF NET

Woods of Net, designed by artist Toshiko Horiuchi Macadam, is an expansive interior rainbow knit structure made by hand. Tezuka Architects designed the exterior wooden structure that relies entirely on the weight of the timber beams to hold it in place instead of metal fasteners. This playground doubles up as an open-air museum and the first one of its kind to open in Japan.

WALLHOLLA

Wallholla Playground is designed by the Dutch company, Carv. This structure makes spectacular use of the narrow footprint of the site. It’s small in scale but the multiple vertical opportunities for fun bring a unique and exciting presence to the playground community.

JANE'S CAROUSEL

Having spent most of its time in Ohio, Jane’s Carousel dates back to 1922 and is a landmark on the National Register of Historic Places. The Pavilion, designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel, houses Jane’s Carousel and sits within the larger expanse of the newly developed Brooklyn Bridge Park. The pavilion acts as both protective shelter for the carousel as well as welcoming public space to enjoy a fun ride. At night, the structure transforms into a lantern and is visible from the surrounding context; every hour, the horses’ shadows dance on the building’s facades, marking the hour like an urban clock.

DOKK1

Monstrum, designers from Denmark are world-leaders in dreamscape playgrounds. The Russian Bear here is part of a globally themed playscape on top of Dokki1, a public library and cultural center in Aarhus, Denmark. The bear is 7.5 metres tall and holds a hollow trunk slide, containing small Russian paintings inside. There are 4 other play areas in this public space all telling small stories about the wildlife, animals, landscape, geology and culture from the represented areas.

GRANGE PARK

Our newest partner at North on Bayview, Earthscape, has been praised for their innovative revitalization of the playspace at the beautiful and historic Grange Park in Toronto.

For Earthscape, bringing brilliant playground concepts to life requires combining landscape architecture, industrial design, engineering, carpentry and project management. They do this all around the world, and now they are coming to Richmond Hill with North on Bayview. We are so excited to show you what we’ve dreamed up.

North on Bayview is coming soon. Register online for all updates as they are released.
